Cone 6 Glassing with Maite Oca
Mid range firing is an increasingly popular firing range in ceramics. In this class you will be testing and altering glazes to get great effects without going to cone 10. You will be trying a verity of commercial and made from scratch glazes, which will be tested on a weekly bases. Class size is limited to 8 students.
Learn how to make press molds for tiles, decorative reliefs, and for building sculpture. In this class you will plan and create your own molds and then use them in creating your own work. Previous clay experience required.
Students
enrolling in handbuilding should
commit to attending the first three classes or their projects
may not be completed by the end of the session.
Mosaics with Rose Quintana
Learn the ancient art of Mosaics.
Students will learn to make mosaics for tabletops, wall art
and other projects. Shapes will be cut from clay slabs to create
unique designs and patterns, then glazed
with bright colors or crystal glazes. These will be glued and
grouted onto wood. Bring drawings, collages, paper, cutouts,
and your creativity.
Your options are endless in this class. With the use of clay slaps and a great array of color glazes you can create Mirror surrounds, address plaques, small table tops, tiles for a kitchen or bathroom, the list goes on.
This class is for beginners who can't decide weather to take a handbuilding or a wheel class. We will create two projects using handbuilding techniques and learn the basics of throwing on the wheel. The wheel pots will be high fired in the gas kiln and the other projects will be low fired in the electric kiln. This will give you a good overview of the basic ceramic techniques and a better idea of which you would like to pursue.
Create unique functional or sculptural
pieces using different handbuilding techniques. Glazes, oxides, and underglazes used. Come and have fun! English, Spanish and, French.
The classes
listed below are offered for beginners as well as for those
who have wheel experience. Students will learn to center clay
to produce cups, bowls, vases, platters, teapots, altered shapes and more. Courses are 6 weeks.
James Herring
Wheel throwing for advanced, intermediate, and the serious beginner.
This class will focus on acquiring and refining basic wheel throwing skills as well as, exploring more advanced techniques of altering thrown forms. Each class will begin with a demonstration followed by individual attention as students work on the day’s assignment. Followed by a period of free work time. You will be making a pot or vase by "Coiling". You will make your own "Slips" to be used in combination with "Burnishing". The final step, "Smoke Firing", to bring out the true beauty of your piece.
Break up your week and double
your pleasure. Join Manny and Lee to learn pottery from beginners on up. Come create and embellish your pots with a
variety of clay decorations.
This class is for beginners who can't decide whether to take a handbuilding or a wheel class. You will get a good overview of the basic ceramic techniques and a better idea of which you would like to pursue.
Children will explore their creativity on the wheel and with hand building. Working in clay is a fun way to develop problem-solving skills, advance artistic abilities and experience the value of patience. Ages 7+.
Have your next birthday party or just have a group of friends get together at the league. Working with clay is a unique way to spend time together. Ages five and up can create a wonderful keepsake ceramic piece by handbuilding or wheel (depending on ages and size of group). Prices range from $18 to $25 depending on the project. This price includes clay, glazes and firing.
