TEACHING STAFF AT THE CERAMIC LEAGUE

Joan Cortright

Joan Cortright started working with clay in college, and continued her education with Dr. Gary Irby and at Corcoran School of Art and Design. She joined the Ceramic League when she moved to Miami.

Adult and Child Class

Adult and Child studentsThis class is designed around the idea of spending time with each other, whether it be your child, sibling, parent, relative or friend. We encourage interaction between each other as you create your masterpieces. You will find conversation flowing as you share the excitement of creating something that will transform from a wet lump of clay to a bright usable piece of ceramics.

Over the 6 weeks there will be set projects that will help you develop skills that can be used to create your own project together. On the wheel you will get the chance to make bowls, cups and plates.

With the hand build you will use coils, slabs and the extruder to make an array of shapes.

We would love to have you come and enjoy this time with us.

Joan Cortright’s "Curious About Clay?"
class at the Ceramic League

joan helps studentThis class is for those of you who are brand new to clay or just want the opportunity to work in both wheel and hand building. Class size is kept small so register early to save a spot.

Wheel will take longer to get the technique mastered, but it is very therapeutic way to spend a couple of hours. Handbuilding will involve learning several different ways to make a piece from either a slab, coil or sculpted.

Weeks 1 and 2
Wheel: Learn how to center the clay (this is the hardest part), then you can start creating.

Weeks 3, 4, 5

If you have a picture or can describe what you want to make we will go over a plan to try and accomplish it.

Week 6
Glaze: We have a wide range of glazes that you can choose from to finish off all your pieces. You will come back at a later date to pick up your finished pieces as they have to be fired one last time to bring out the wonderful colors.

All supplies are provided . No hidden fees.
